Nebraska voters green-light medical marijuana legalization. Here’s what you need to know
Medical marijuana has been legalized in Nebraska following a vote by the public on Tuesday.
There were two specific ballot measures regarding medical marijuana presented to Nebraska voters. Initiative Measure 437 received approval from 70.7% of voters, while Initiative Measure 438 was approved by 66.9% of voters.
Initiative Measure 437 introduces a new law allowing qualified patients to use, possess, and obtain up to 5 ounces of cannabis for medical reasons, with a written recommendation from a healthcare provider. This measure also permits a caregiver to help the qualified patient with these actions.
Initiative Measure 438 creates a new law that removes penalties for possession, manufacturing, distributing, delivering, and dispensing cannabis for medical purposes by state-registered entities. It will also set up the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission to oversee these operations.
