Noah Lyles responds to Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill: ‘Just seeking attention’
Noah Lyles was direct when discussing Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
During a segment on the “Nightcap” with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, Lyles was asked about the possibility of racing Hill. This came after Hill claimed he could beat the Olympic 100-meter champion and suggested that after finishing third in the 200 at the Paris Olympics, Lyles “pretended to be sick.”
“Tyreek is just seeking attention. Whenever someone fast comes along, he claims he wants to race them. If he was genuinely interested in racing, he would have shown up like D.K. Metcalf did. Metcalf ran in the 60m this year at the Masters division. Hill avoids real competition. I don’t have time for that,” Lyles stated regarding Hill. “If he’s really serious about it – I’m not talking about just making noise on social media without actually reaching out to my agent to make arrangements – if you’re truly committed, you’ll find me on the track.”
Lyles has been vocal about other athletes in different sports too. In 2023, he controversially remarked that the winner of the NBA Finals should not be labeled as a world champion.
On the track, Hill has experience, having participated in both track and football in college. He also competed at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships the previous year.
Despite being known as one of the fastest players in the NFL, Hill’s track and field times are not comparable to Lyles’.
Hill’s personal best in the 100 meters is 10.19 seconds, and his fastest in the 200 meters is 20.14 seconds. These times would have placed him last in the 100 final and out of medal contention in the 200 at the Paris Olympics.
Lyles’ best time in the 100 meters is an impressive 9.79 seconds, which he achieved in Paris to win the gold medal. His top 200-meter time of 19.31 seconds is the current American record.
