Under sunny skies and crisp autumn temperatures, the 53rd TCS New York City Marathon kicked off Sunday morning with 50,000 runners eager to conquer the iconic 26.2-mile course.

**Men’s Race: Nageeye Triumphs**

Dutch runner Abdi Nageeye, Olympic silver medalist, edged out defending champion Evans Chebet of Kenya by just six seconds, crossing the finish line in 2:07:39. Albert Korir, the 2021 winner, finished in third, while 2023 favorites Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia, and reigning champ, finished fourth.

American runners Connor Mantz and Clayton Young, trained partners, secured sixth and seventh place respectively. CJ Albertson rounded out a strong showing for the United States, placing tenth overall.

**Women’s Race: Kenya’s Reign Continues**

Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya surged ahead in the final stretch to win the women’s race in 2:24:35, defeating defending champion Hellen Obiri by 14 seconds. Vivian Cheruiyot completed the Kenyan podium sweep, marking Kenya’s sixth consecutive win in the women’s race, excluding the cancelled 2020 edition.

American Sara Vaughn led the national contingent, finishing seventh overall. Jessica McClain followed closely in eighth, while Kellyn Taylor secured tenth place.

Both Nageeye and Chepkirui earned $100,000 for their victories.

**Americans Dominate Wheelchair Races: Romanchuk Shocks Hug**

American athletes stole the show in the wheelchair races, achieving a historic sweep. Daniel Romanchuk, in a stunning upset, dethroned six-time champion Marcel Hug by overtaking him in the closing stages, securing his third NYC marathon title. Hug, despite holding the records for consecutive wins and fastest marathon times, finished a surprising fourth.

Susannah Scaroni blazed a trail in the women’s wheelchair race, building a commanding lead and ultimately winning her second NYC marathon with a record-breaking margin. Four-time champion Tatyana McFadden finished second, followed by Manuela Schar.

Both Scaroni and Romanchuk received $35,000 each for their victories.
