Ohio TV Reporter Injured in Shooting During Domestic Dispute: Reports


Winnie Dortch from Cleveland’s 19 News was injured, and a deceased individual was discovered on a sidewalk with gunshot wounds on Monday morning, following an apparent domestic dispute.

A television journalist in Ohio was hospitalized on Monday morning after being shot in what appears to be a domestic incident, according to her news station.

 

Winnie Dortch, who works for WOIO 19 News in Cleveland, was reportedly shot around 8 a.m. on Clifton Boulevard in Lakewood, Ohio. Local police informed the TV station that they received initial reports of a dispute occurring in the vicinity.

As officers arrived at the scene, they received further reports indicating shots had been fired. Upon arrival, they found both a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds on the sidewalk.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was declared dead at the scene, while Dortch was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. Her family later informed 19 News that the procedure was successful.

 

YSL News reached out to Lakewood police on Monday but has yet to receive a response.

‘Our Thoughts Are with Her’

According to 19 News, a firearm was recovered from the scene. Law enforcement stated that the investigation is ongoing to clarify the circumstances leading to the shooting, as well as the connection between Dortch and the deceased man.

 

In light of the unfortunate incident, 19 News expressed that its staff is “heartbroken for Winnie and her family,” and is “hoping for her swift and complete recovery.”

 

“This morning, our colleague Winnie Dortch became a victim of a tragic domestic violence incident. She was promptly taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she underwent surgery for her injuries,” stated Brian Sinclair, News Director at WOIO. “Our thoughts are with her, her young daughter, and all the victims of domestic violence within our community.”

Beyond her current role at 19 News, Dortch has an extensive background in journalism, having previously worked at WDJT in Milwaukee, WJRT in Flint, KPTM in Omaha, and WGN-TV in Chicago.
