Ohio State Tops Final NCAA College Football Re-Rank 1-134 After National Championship

It wasn’t a tough decision: Ohio State secures the No. 1 spot in the YSL News Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-134 after their victory over Notre Dame, winning 34-23 in the College Football Playoff national championship game on Monday night.

Notre Dame ranks No. 2, having just missed out on claiming their first title since 1988. Following them are the top teams in the Bowl Subdivision for 2024: No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Penn State, No. 5 Texas, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 8 Boise State, No. 9 Indiana, and No. 10 Tennessee.

Even with two losses to Georgia, including in the SEC Championship, the Longhorns secure a higher rank in the final standings due to playoff victories over Clemson and Arizona State.

The Big Ten and SEC dominate the top 25, contributing 12 teams, with five appearing in the top six spots.

This marks the first re-rank since the regular season concluded. Results from bowl games outside the playoff caused significant changes in rankings: No. 12 Iowa State jumped 10 places after defeating Miami, No. 20 Illinois moved up seven spots following a win against South Carolina, and No. 31 Navy rose 11 positions because of their victory over Oklahoma.

As a result of that defeat, the Sooners fell 16 places to No. 64. Other teams that also slid down include No. 21 Alabama (down eight spots), No. 42 Georgia Tech (down 13), and No. 60 Pittsburgh (down 11).

It’s clear which team holds the lowest position; No. 134 belongs to Kent State, the only team in the FBS without a win.
