OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Gov, an AI Chatbot Designed for Government Use
OpenAI, the renowned artificial intelligence research firm known for its popular chatbot ChatGPT, has introduced a new service aimed specifically at U.S. government agencies.
The service, called ChatGPT Gov, functions similarly to the original ChatGPT, but it’s designed to allow government agencies to safely input “non-public, sensitive information” into its extensive language model. This specialized version allows agencies to utilize their own hosting setups, ensuring they can implement their existing internal security measures to protect their data.
According to OpenAI’s announcement on Tuesday, “We believe that the integration of artificial intelligence into U.S. government operations can enhance efficiency and productivity, which is vital for reinforcing and advancing America’s leadership in technology.” They further emphasized that their models can assist in public sector efforts that are beneficial to society, covering areas such as public health, energy, the environment, transportation, infrastructure, consumer protection, and national security.
