Oregon Stays Top Dog in US LBM Coaches Poll; Notre Dame Cracks the Top 10

During Week 9 of college football, there was a lot of excitement, but few surprises. Consequently, the US LBM Coaches Poll shows minimal changes at the top, with the top six teams remaining unchanged.

Oregon retains its No. 1 position, having secured all but one of the 54 first-place votes following a strong victory over Illinois. Georgia, which had a bye week, holds on to No. 2, capturing the remaining first-place vote. Penn State and Ohio State are next in line, set to face each other next week. Miami (Fla.) at No. 5 and Texas at No. 6 also keep their standings after wins.

Changes start at No. 7, where LSU fell after losing to Texas A&M, dropping them to No. 16. Texas A&M now hold the No. 11 spot. Tennessee and Clemson both moved up one position, landing at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. After a solid win against then-No. 24 Navy, Notre Dame climbs to No. 9, just ahead of No. 10 Iowa State.

Despite their defeat to Oregon, Illinois remains in the rankings at No. 24. Unfortunately, Navy and Vanderbilt dropped out of the rankings.

This week marks the first entry for Washington State at No. 22, while Memphis makes a return to the poll, narrowly surpassing Colorado for the No. 25 position by a single point.
