Pamela Anderson Ditches Makeup at Gotham Awards, Calls It ‘Not Necessary’
Pamela Anderson is changing the narrative around beauty with her natural look.
The 57-year-old actress turned heads at the 2024 Gotham Film Awards on Monday night, where she received a nomination for her performance in “The Last Showgirl.” She wore a stunning strapless gold gown, complemented by minimal accessories, a relaxed hairstyle, and no makeup.
Speaking to People on the red carpet, Anderson acknowledged that while she enjoys makeup, she feels it doesn’t fit into her personal life right now.
“I do like to wear makeup sometimes,” she explained. “There’s a time and a place for it. In my personal life, though, it just doesn’t make sense right now.”
Anderson’s decision to embrace a fresh-faced appearance has garnered admiration since she began moving away from heavy makeup on red carpets in 2023, a shift that her co-star Jamie Lee Curtis described as sparking a “natural beauty revolution.”
The former “Baywatch” star shared in an interview with Vogue France in October 2023 that she aspires to showcase the various ways women can express their beauty. “I don’t aim to be the most beautiful person in the room,” she remarked. “For me, it’s all about freedom and relief.”
When asked what beauty signifies to her, Anderson provided a thoughtful answer, likely referring to her “Showgirl” character: “It involves being courageous and pursuing your dreams. It’s never too late to chase after them.”
Earlier in fall, Anderson expressed her excitement about her role in the indie film “The Last Showgirl” at the Toronto International Film Festival, calling it the part she feels she has always been preparing for.
In the film, she portrays an aging showgirl competing for auditions against much younger dancers.
“This is the first meaningful script I’ve ever had, one that actually made sense,” said Anderson, who was a previous Playboy Playmate and has acted in films like “Barb Wire” and “Raw Justice,” during a TIFF Q&A in September. “I really wanted to do this. It’s a strong feeling I’ve never experienced before.” When director Gia Coppola offered her the role, she felt ready to embrace the opportunity: “I have nothing to lose. I’m going for it.”
