Patty Gasso, the head coach for the Oklahoma women’s softball team, has been appointed to guide the U.S. national squad as it readies for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

USA Softball, the official governing body for the sport, revealed on Monday that Gasso, who has steered the Sooners to eight national titles, including a record fourth straight championship in 2024, will take on the role of head coach for the U.S. Olympic team for the upcoming 2025-2028 Olympic cycle.

“It’s an incredible milestone in my career and a dream realized to be selected as the coach for Team USA,” Gasso stated. “This is the greatest honor I could ever imagine, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust that USA Softball has placed in me. I am passionately committed to ensuring Team USA reaches its highest potential and competes for gold in 2028.”

Gasso boasts a wealth of experience with the U.S. women’s national softball team, having coached various squads and participated in training camps and selection processes.

A proud inductee of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Gasso embarks on her 31st season as Oklahoma’s head softball coach this week.

At 62 years old, Gasso holds an impressive career tally of 1,515 wins against 352 losses with 2 ties at Oklahoma and is recognized as the all-time winningest coach in the Big 12 Conference across all sports.
