Pennsylvania Officials Debunk Viral Video Claiming Trump Ballot Destruction as a Hoax

‘This video is fake’: Pennsylvania officials state that viral video of Trump ballots being destroyed is a fabrication

The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office has reported that a viral video claiming to show the destruction of mail-in ballots in a Philadelphia suburb is false.

“The Bucks County Board of Elections is aware of a video circulating on social media this afternoon, suggesting it depicts Bucks County mail-in ballots being opened and destroyed. This video is not real,” the county officials stated in an online message posted Thursday.

“The envelopes and materials shown in this video do not belong to or were not provided by the Bucks County Board of Elections.”

Manuel Gamiz Jr., a spokesperson for the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, confirmed via email on Thursday afternoon that both local and federal agencies are looking into the source of this apparent deception. County representative James O’Malley noted that one indication of the video’s falseness is that the envelopes portrayed appear glossy, which is not a feature of official ballot envelopes.

You can see the actual, non-glossy secrecy envelopes used for official ballots in a video from the county posted on YouTube in August.

The fraudulent video shows a man opening a pile of sealed mail ballot envelopes and tearing up ballots cast for former President Donald Trump as well as those for Vice President Kamala Harris.

The man in the video can be heard repeatedly saying, “F— Donald Trump,” while destroying the ballots.

As stated by the county, both the FBI, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and Pennsylvania Department of State have been notified about the video.

“The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office and the Yardley Borough Police Department are investigating a video circulating on social media that appears to depict the destruction of election ballots. Our investigation has determined that this video was fabricated, aimed at undermining confidence in the upcoming election,” said Gamiz.

Bucks County commissioner and Board of Elections Chair Bob Harvie firmly stated that the elections board “strongly condemns this deliberate spread of dangerous misinformation.”

“Such actions are intended to create division and distrust in our election processes, and undermine the efforts of those diligently working to ensure a fair election,” Harvie asserted.

One tweet on X, previously known as Twitter, sharing the two-minute video had already garnered over 342,000 shares as of 2:40 p.m. Thursday.

The Bucks County Democratic Committee also issued a statement on Thursday evening denouncing the video.

“This evidently false, and frankly, racist video is merely a vile attempt by Donald Trump supporters to cast doubt on our mail-in voting system and, ultimately, the outcome of the Presidential Election,” stated state Sen. Steve Santarsiero (D-Bucks), chair of the county Democratic committee.

“Fortunately, we believe the public will recognize this for what it truly is, and the electoral process will proceed without incidents.”

The Bucks County Republican Committee also quickly responded to the video through a post on their Facebook page, claiming it is “designed to intimidate voters and discourage them from using mail-in ballots or on-demand voting that employs the same mail-in process.”
