Penta makes WWE debut: Key details on the arrival of ‘Cero Miedo’

Penta has made his debut in WWE.

The seasoned luchador stepped into the ring for the first time on Monday night, claiming victory over Chad Gable in his inaugural match with the company.

He entered to a lively audience at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, appearing from the shadows adorned with his famous “Cero Miedo” insignia. The crowd erupted in cheers as he made his way to the ring, fully enjoying the moment.

Gable appeared rattled by Penta’s early display of flashy wrestling style, incorporating creativity, acrobatics, and his vibrant personality to energize the audience. Despite his showmanship, Gable managed to counter some of Penta’s skills, including executing a German suplex from the ring apron and targeting Penta’s left leg in his offense.

Though slightly hindered, Penta still executed a number of dazzling aerial moves that showcased why he is such a valuable addition to WWE, famously completing a stunning Mexican Destroyer. Just when it seemed he might be on the verge of losing as Gable locked him into an ankle lock, Penta skillfully escaped and unleashed his signature arm destroyer, known as the sacrifice, leading up to his impressive Penta Driver. This maneuver was enough for him to secure the pin and win the match.

After his bout, WWE reporter Jackie Redmond spoke with Penta, while his family watched proudly from ringside. He expressed gratitude to the San Jose crowd and conveyed enthusiasm for being part of WWE and for his family, speaking in both English and Spanish.

“This is my new home,” he stated. “The truth is, I’ve been waiting for this moment.”

He also acknowledged the people of Mexico, proclaiming that a new chapter has begun in WWE.

“This isn’t just a new era for Netflix. It’s now the Penta new era,” he declared.

Who is Penta?

Throughout his wrestling journey, Penta has been known by various names. He began his career in Mexico, making a name for himself in the lucha libre landscape before gaining more widespread recognition in the U.S. during his time with Lucha Underground, where he faced prominent figures such as Rey Mysterio and participated in notable intergender matches against current WWE talents Chelsea Green and Iyo Sky.

Following his appearances in Major League Wrestling and Impact Wrestling, Penta was among the initial roster members to join All Elite Wrestling in 2019, where he primarily partnered with Rey Fénix as part of the Lucha Brothers. Their crowning achievement came in 2021 when they captured the AEW World Tag Team Championship at All Out. In 2022, the duo teamed up with Pac to secure the AEW World Trios Championship.

The Lucha Brothers also made their mark in Ring of Honor, claiming the ROH World Tag Team Championship in 2023. Penta last competed in AEW in July and has been out of the limelight since then.

In December, WWE began airing teasers hinting at Penta’s signing. During the first Monday Night Raw on Netflix, a vignette with “Penta” flashed on screen, and Gable challenged himself to fight the “best luchador” the following week. Gable’s challenge materialized, leading to Penta’s victorious debut.
