Pitchfork Music Festival Set to Embark on a New Adventure After 19 Unforgettable Years in Chicago

Pitchfork Music Festival seeks new location after concluding 19 years in Chicago

Music enthusiasts in Chicago are bidding farewell to a beloved yearly event.

Organizers announced on Monday that the 2025 Pitchfork Music Festival will not be held at Chicago’s Union Park, marking the end of its 19-year tenure there. This decision, described by the music magazine as one that was not made lightly, comes amidst a fast-changing music festival scene.

In their statement, Pitchfork Media noted, “While the Festival has always reflected the Pitchfork editorial team’s taste, it has also developed into a key part of Chicago’s cultural fabric through collaboration. We are incredibly thankful to Chicago for hosting us for almost two decades, as well as to the artists whose unforgettable performances enhanced our stages and to the fans who brought their incredible energy each year.”

Although Pitchfork Media has not disclosed the new location for the 2025 festival or the reasons for leaving Chicago, they confirmed that events will continue next summer and thereafter.

The Origin of the Pitchfork Music Festival

The inaugural festival, created by founder Mike Reed, took place in Chicago in 2006 and attracted over 35,000 attendees. It has been held at Union Park annually except for 2020, when the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2024 festival occurred from July 19 to July 21 and featured headliners such as Jamie xx, Alanis Morissette, and the Black Pumas.

Over the years, the festival has seen performances from notable artists like Lauryn Hill, Tame Impala, Bon Iver, and Kendrick Lamar.
