Randy Moss health update: Reason for wearing sunglasses on ESPN’s ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’
This week’s episode of ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” took a more serious tone during its opening segments.
Host Mike Greenberg then turned to NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss, who spoke about a health challenge that occasionally required him to sport sunglasses throughout the program. Last week, viewers noticed that Moss’ eyes looked yellow, and he appealed for prayers as he is “battling something internally.”
“I want to share something with you all,” Moss stated. “I posted on Instagram a little while ago about the concerns people had regarding my eyes last week. I want the audience to know that my family and I are dealing with an internal issue. I have amazing doctors supporting me. I couldn’t skip the show; I wanted to be here with you. I feel great, but if you see me wearing these Michigan turnover glasses, it’s not meant to be disrespectful while I’m on air. I’m going through something, and I appreciate all the prayer warriors out there. Thank you and God bless.”
In a show of support, Greenberg and the rest of the “NFL Sunday Countdown” team, including Rex Ryan, Alex Smith, and Tedy Bruschi, also donned sunglasses during the Week 13 broadcast.
The Hall of Famer enjoyed a 14-season career with the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers. He has the second-highest number of career touchdown receptions (156) in NFL history, trailing only Jerry Rice, and ranks fourth in all-time receiving yards with 15,292.
Since 2016, Moss has been serving as an NFL analyst for ESPN, making regular appearances on “Sunday NFL Countdown” and “Monday Night Countdown” as part of the network’s pro football analysis.
