Ravens Update: Mark Andrews’ Car Accident and Coach D’Alessandris’ Health

The Baltimore Ravens’ star tight end, Mark Andrews, was involved in a car accident early Wednesday morning on his way to practice but fortunately did not appear to have any injuries.

Additionally, the Ravens disclosed that offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris was admitted to the hospital due to a serious illness that will necessitate long-term treatment.

The 28-year-old Andrews was assessed by the team’s medical team and then attended morning meetings. He had a scheduled day off from practice and is anticipated to return shortly, according to the organization.

In a statement, Andrews expressed gratitude for the well wishes, stating, “This incident serves as a vital reminder about the importance of wearing seatbelts and staying vigilant while driving.”

No further information regarding the car accident was released.

Andrews is a three-time Pro Bowl player who was drafted by the Ravens in the third round of the 2018 draft.

Throughout his career, he has made 381 receptions for 4,857 yards and scored 40 touchdowns across 87 games (42 of which he started). He was sidelined for the last six games of 2023 due to an ankle injury sustained during a match against the Cincinnati Bengals on November 16. His injury occurred from a hip-drop tackle, a move that the NFL has since banned. He made his return in January for the AFC Championship Game.

Coach D’Alessandris, who is 70 years old, has been leading the Ravens’ offensive line since 2017. His coaching career spans back to 1977 and includes tenures with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and the then-San Diego Chargers.

Head coach John Harbaugh stated, “Coach D’Alessandris is highly respected and valued within our organization. We provide him with our full support as he prioritizes his health.”

In the meantime, the Ravens are bringing in George Warhop to support the coaching staff. With a wealth of experience in training elite offensive linemen, Warhop is expected to keep the offensive line progressing during Coach D’s recovery.

Having started his coaching journey at Kansas in 1984, Warhop, 62, has worked as an offensive line coach for seven colleges and eight NFL franchises, including the Houston Texans last year.

Warhop also served as the offensive coordinator for the London Monarchs in NFL Europe during 1991-92.
