Red Lobster Closes 23 More Restaurants: Complete List of 129 Closed Locations

Over three months after entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Red Lobster is permanently closing 23 additional restaurants across the United States.

This most recent closure brings the total number of shut-down locations to 129 nationwide. The latest closures include three restaurants in Florida, Illinois, and Virginia, two in Minnesota and New York, and one in each of Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina.

In a court filing submitted on August 22 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, the company based in Orlando indicated it would be ending leases for these 23 additional stores by Saturday, August 31.

Red Lobster announced its bankruptcy on May 19, after already shutting down several locations and planning to enhance operations by streamlining their business model. Further court documents indicated that the reasons for bankruptcy included heavy debt, frequent changes in leadership, a poorly received all-you-can-eat shrimp promotion, and a 30% decline in customer visits since 2019.

Here’s what to know about the newly announced closures by Red Lobster:

Previously Closed Red Lobster Locations

In June, the company disclosed in bankruptcy filings that it would disregard the leases of 228 restaurants that were no longer profitable to operate. Some of the restaurants on this list had already closed, suggesting they were in danger of shuttering an additional 129 establishments.

The estimated total has now been verified with the new announcement regarding 23 locations on top of the earlier closure of 106 spots earlier this summer.
