Richard Simmons was buried in fitness attire, according to his brother: ‘Similar to Clark Kent’
No matter where Richard Simmons finds himself now, he likely continues to be “Sweatin’ to the Oldies.”
“Much like Clark Kent, beneath his outfit, he has on a tank top and shorts,” he explained. “Why is this? Because we believe that God has a special plan for him, and we wanted to ensure he was dressed in his familiar outfit to assist the saints and angels in getting fit.”
Lenny added, “I want to express that even though he’s no longer with us, and I know he’s here in spirit tonight, Richard Simmons will eternally be sweating with the holy ones.”
Richard Simmons passed away on July 13, just a day after celebrating his 76th birthday. His cause of death was reported as “accidental, due to complications from recent falls, with heart disease being a contributing factor,” as confirmed by his publicist Tom Estey to YSL News. “The toxicology report showed no issues aside from prescribed medication.”
After a small private funeral attended by eight individuals, a larger celebration of Simmons’ life took place on Saturday at St. Louis Cathedral in his hometown of New Orleans.
“I lost my only brother, but you all lost a friend, a teacher, and an inspiration,” Lenny Simmons reflected.
A report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Department revealed that Simmons had avoided seeking medical attention after feeling dizzy and collapsing at home.
“He opted not to seek medical help because he wished to celebrate his birthday on (07/12/2024) at home and promised to seek help the following day (07/13/2024),” the report stated.
Simmons often interacted with fans on social media. In July, his team shared a final message he intended to post on Facebook and X shortly before his passing, featuring a photo of Simmons in a spacesuit with the message, “Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard.”
