Robbie Williams Leads Wedding at ‘Better Man’ Screening: ‘It’s Not Legally Binding’

Robbie Williams is indeed the “Better Man” for this occasion.

Following a screening of his latest musical biopic in New York City, the British pop star took the stage to officiate a wedding for two members of the audience, as revealed in various social media posts from the event.

“During today’s BETTER MAN Q&A in NYC, Robbie Williams showed vulnerability and connected genuinely with the audience. He even shared a heartfelt moment with his daughter, before a man in the crowd asked him, as an ordained minister, to officiate his marriage,” blogger @EzraCubero shared on X Sunday. “It was incredible.”

Another user on X managed to capture the special moment on video.

“By the power granted to me by absolutely nobody – and while it’s not legally binding, in the depths of your heart and mine, do you agree to say I do?” Williams, aged 50, declared before confirming the vows for the color-coordinated couple and encouraging the audience to applaud.

Director Michael Gracey’s unique biopic/jukebox musical, which is now showing in theaters across the nation, portrays the life and career of the British pop icon, albeit as a CGI ape man. Williams takes on the role of his animated self and narrates the story, which received a Golden Globe nomination for best original song for the track “Forbidden Road.”

In an interview with YSL News, Williams mentioned that the idea of him being depicted as a chimp was Gracey’s original concept.

He described being “completely and utterly obsessed” with the notion of presenting his musical story this way. “I’m just like a performing monkey,” Williams often joked with Gracey, with whom he forged a friendship during the making of “The Greatest Showman.”

He added that the unconventional choice “achieves its purpose by sparking conversation and generating buzz.” According to Williams, “There’s about eight to twelve minutes where the audience is in disbelief, and then they forget it and embark on a journey they’ve never experienced before.”
