Sabrina Ionescu’s Clutch 3-Pointer Seals Thrilling Liberty Comeback Against Lynx in WNBA Finals Game 3

Sabrina Ionescu’s incredible 3-pointer seals Liberty’s comeback against Lynx in WNBA Finals Game 3

MINNEAPOLIS — The New York Liberty are on the brink of their first WNBA championship.

With an impressive 22 points in the second half by Breanna Stewart and two crucial three-pointers from Sabrina Ionescu in the last minute, the Liberty rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat the Lynx 80-77 on Wednesday at the Target Center in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals.

New York now holds a 2-1 advantage in the series, which is best-of-five. Game 4 will take place on Friday in Minneapolis. If the Lynx win, a fifth game will be hosted in New York.

The Lynx controlled most of the game until New York finally took the lead for the first time since a 5-2 start, thanks to Ionescu’s excellent pass to Jonquel Jones for a layup. After a missed shot by Minnesota, Ionescu quickly followed up with a 3-pointer with just under one minute remaining, extending the Liberty’s lead to six points.

But the game was far from over.

Bridget Carleton scored for Minnesota, and Napheesa Collier made two free throws, tying the game at 77-77 with 16 seconds left. The Lynx had one foul left to give, allowing New York one more possession with 10.9 seconds on the clock. After receiving the ball, Ionescu took a couple of dribbles at the top of the key and then hit a long 3-pointer from about 30 feet away to secure the victory. Minnesota was unable to respond with a shot before the buzzer sounded.

Ionescu ended the game with 13 points, while Stewart led with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Collier was the top scorer for Minnesota with 22 points, requiring 22 shots to do so, accompanied by Kayla McBride, who contributed 19 points.
