New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. Sarasota Man Steals Car to Deliver a Message to Trump at Mar-a-Lago

A Sarasota resident arrested for driving a stolen car to Mar-a-Lago in an attempt to meet Trump

A man was apprehended late Thursday after Palm Beach Police reported he arrived at Mar-a-Lago in a stolen vehicle, seeking a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump.

This incident marks at least the third arrest connected to Mar-a-Lago since the summer, coinciding with a busy period for Trump’s club filled with influential figures offering guidance during his transition for a second term.

The 52-year-old man from Sarasota has been charged with vehicle theft and driving without a valid license. He was held at the Palm Beach County Jail the following Friday on a $5,250 bond, awaiting his first court appearance, where his bond status might be revised.

Details from a Palm Beach Police arrest report indicated that the man drove a Hyundai Kona, a compact SUV, to the parking area near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club around 9:15 p.m. and requested to see the president-elect. He was temporarily detained by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s detective and a U.S. Secret Service agent while they awaited police assistance.

The arriving officer discovered that the man’s driver’s license was indefinitely suspended. When checking the vehicle’s license plate, it was confirmed that it was not registered to him.

It turned out the gray Hyundai was a rental, which had been rented by a woman. When police contacted her, she stated that she knew the man and had met him earlier to discuss buying a vehicle. While she went into a bank to withdraw cash, he remained in the vehicle, according to her statement to law enforcement.

Upon her return, she found the SUV missing, according to the police report.

The woman returned to the man’s home, expecting him to come back, but he did not. Instead, he ended up driving to Mar-a-Lago. She informed police she had not authorized him to take the vehicle.

A deputy from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office later informed the Palm Beach Police officer that the SUV had been reported stolen.

Recent incidents at Mar-a-Lago

This Sarasota resident is the most recent person arrested at Mar-a-Lago, following an assassination attempt against Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.

After the attack, where Trump and two supporters sustained injuries and a rally-goer lost their life, the Secret Service took immediate steps to enhance security for Trump, his family, campaign staff, and all his properties, including Mar-a-Lago.

Heightened security included closing South Ocean Boulevard from the Southern Boulevard traffic circle to the intersection with South County Road whenever Trump is at home.

On July 31, a Chinese individual residing in California was arrested for attempting to enter Mar-a-Lago multiple times to speak with Trump. He was held at the Palm Beach County Jail until late October, after which he again tried to gain access to Mar-a-Lago and was placed under the Baker Act on October 30 after soliciting help from a local resident to reach the club.

On November 7, the day he was released from the Baker Act hold, he was arrested again for misdemeanor trespassing after arriving via Uber at the south gate of Mar-a-Lago. He has pled not guilty to the charges.

Additionally, on August 13, a South Carolina man who claimed to be a Trump supporter was arrested after attempting to bypass Secret Service security checkpoints to directly approach Trump. He has also entered a not guilty plea.
