More about spaghetti and its preparation
Barilla noted that spaghetti became popular in southern Italy, deriving its name from “spago,” which translates to “string.”
This pasta was introduced to the United States by Italian immigrants in the 19th century. Spaghetti is commonly enjoyed with various sauces, vegetables, and fish.
According to the company’s survey, there are differences in opinions regarding several cooking practices, including whether to add salt to pasta cooking water.
Participants reacted to the statement “Pasta water should be as salty as the sea.” The results showed that 56% of Gen Z, 51% of Millennials, 40% of Gen X, and only 33% of Boomers agree with this statement.
On the subject of whether spaghetti should be broken in half before cooking, survey responses were as follows:
- Gen Z – 55% prefer to cook spaghetti without breaking it in half
- Millennials – 51% also do not break their spaghetti
- Gen X – 42% cook their spaghetti without breaking it
- Boomers – 38% cook their spaghetti without breaking it
