Country singer Scotty McCreery paused his performance at the Colorado State Fair last weekend after noticing a man allegedly hitting a woman in the audience.

Footage shared on social media shows McCreery, who hails from North Carolina, stopping his show for over two minutes during the introduction of his popular song, “It Matters To Her”, while seeking help from the audience and authorities.

“Hey, you just hit that lady, sir,” McCreery, 30, said, prompting gasps from the audience. “Absolutely not, you just hit her. Police? Security? Is she okay? Get out!”

McCreery continued, “On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery concert? What are you doing?” He pointed out the man to the crowd. “Please let the police know who hit the lady. This is completely unacceptable.”

Audience members at the front were seen directing security to the individuals involved before they were escorted away.

Officials from the Colorado State Fair confirmed the occurrence of an assault during McCreery’s performance to local news station KKTV-TV.

However, they have not disclosed the identity of the man involved or whether he faced arrest.

“We affirm that an incident occurred during the Scotty McCreery concert where a man attacked a woman, leading to the performer stopping the show. Fair security aided with crowd management,” officials stated. “This matter is under investigation and further comments cannot be made.”

YSL News has contacted fair officials and McCreery’s public relations team for additional information.

As of Tuesday, the reason behind the reported assault was still unclear.

From American Idol to award-winning country musician

At just 17 years old, McCreery was crowned the winner of the 10th season of American Idol.

In 2018, he married Gabi Dugal, his longtime girlfriend and a pediatric cardiac nurse at Duke University Hospital, whom he met in kindergarten in Garner, NC.

Among his other hits, “Five More Minutes” and “In Between,” McCreery’s fifth studio album, released last year, included the George Strait homage, “Damn Strait,” according to The Tennessean, a member of the YSL News Network.

The track “It Matters To Her” earned a nomination for Digital First Performance of the Year at the 2024 CMT Music Awards, which McCreery won.
