Seven States in Seven Days: An Epic Road Trip Through America’s Presidential Battlegrounds

7 Counties in 7 Days: A nationwide road trip to 7 significant locations in the presidential race

Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, Arizona.

While all 50 states will cast their votes, these seven key states are crucial in deciding whether Donald Trump or Kamala Harris will become the next U.S. president.

But how will these states lean?

The YSL News Network visited seven counties—one from each of these battleground states—where voters are essential in shaping the outcome for either former President Donald Trump or current Vice President Kamala Harris to secure their state and, subsequently, the presidency.

Join us on “7 Counties in 7 Days” as we traverse the country, engaging with voters and election officials to understand their hopes, fears, concerns, and expectations for both candidates amidst this unparalleled presidential contest.

Richmond County, Georgia

Georgia is a significant target for both presidential candidates, and Richmond County may provide critical insights on who—Trump or Harris—could come out on top. Election officials worry another very close election result is on the horizon.

Cabarrus County, North Carolina

Current polls indicate a neck-and-neck race between Trump and Harris in North Carolina, a state that hasn’t gone Democrat since 2008. Cabarrus County has seen a notable rise in voter registrations over the past decade, predominantly among people of color.

Erie County, Pennsylvania

In the 2020 elections, Erie County flipped from Obama to Trump to Biden and is one of only 25 counties nationwide to do so. As many voters see Pennsylvania as pivotal for winning in 2024, Republicans in Erie County have begun closing the gap in voter registration behind Democrats.

Waukesha County, Wisconsin

Located next to Milwaukee, Waukesha County is Wisconsin’s third-most populated county and the only Republican-leaning area among the largest three counties, alongside Democratic strongholds Milwaukee and Dane. Democrats are striving to narrow the Republican advantage in this area.

Oakland County, Michigan

As the wealthiest county in Michigan, Oakland County has a population of 1.3 million—more than eight full states. The county has seen abortion rights as a key issue, with 64% of voters approving a 2022 ballot initiative to secure reproductive rights within the state constitution.

Washoe County, Nevada

Home to Reno, Washoe County is known for its political diversity. Registered voters in Washoe include 32% Republicans, 30% Democrats, 30% independents, and 8% from other parties, making it a politically challenging area.

Maricopa County, Arizona

In 2020, Joe Biden became the first Democrat since Bill Clinton to win Arizona, securing the county by about 49,000 votes. Democrats have focused on abortion rights, while Republicans aim to gain ground on issues related to border security.
