Shedeur Sanders Focused on Fit Over Draft Position: ‘It’s Not Just About Being No. 1’

Shedeur Sanders Unfazed by Potential No. 1 Draft Pick Status: ‘It’s About Fit’

Shedeur Sanders is one of the top candidates being talked about for the first overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.

However, the Colorado quarterback isn’t too preoccupied with his draft position. When asked if he would hold any resentment for not being picked first, he replied during an interview with ESPN’s Kevin Clark at Super Bowl 59, “Why would I be upset? I see it this way: these are good problems to have. You could be in a much worse position. At the end of the day, being No. 1 isn’t a big deal for me.”

What truly matters to Sanders is finding the right opportunity to start his professional career in the NFL.

“It’s all about the right situation,” Sanders explained. “No matter where you go, it might not be the perfect fit. The ranking doesn’t really matter. I’m not focused on that.”

Sanders also mentioned to Clark that he maintains a strong camaraderie with other top prospective picks for the 2025 NFL draft. This bond has allowed them to exchange insights about their experiences and conversations as they prepare for the unpredictability of the initial draft selections.

He expressed admiration for Cam Ward, with whom he is training, both vying to be the first quarterback chosen. Their friendly rivalry includes playful banter evident in some of their training session videos.

“It’s great that we have this connection because otherwise, the media would definitely try to pit us against each other,” Sanders said about his relationship with Ward. “We definitely mess around a lot, and that’s just our dynamic. It’s beneficial to have this relationship, especially since some people tend to twist things to create drama.”

Only time will tell who will be drafted first, Sanders or Ward. According to YSL News’s latest predictions, Ward is projected to go one spot ahead of Sanders, with the Cleveland Browns selecting him at No. 2, followed by the New York Giants picking Sanders at No. 3.
