‘Stay alert’: Massive sinkhole appears in Florida after Hurricane Milton

A large sinkhole has appeared in Hillsborough County, Florida, following the traumatic aftermath of Hurricane Milton, which resulted in 16 fatalities.

Florida is still reeling from Hurricane Milton, with notable impacts in Hillsborough County where authorities have identified and cordoned off a significant sinkhole.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to residents to “stay alert” after a substantial sinkhole emerged at the crossroads of Irish Moss Avenue and Pond Pine Drive, as noted in a Facebook update from the department on Thursday.

This sinkhole can “expand unexpectedly,” posing a blockade for local residents, according to the sheriff’s office.

Besides steering clear of the sinkhole, the sheriff’s office also cautioned individuals to “stay away from downed power lines and be vigilant about possible dangers.”

Other sinkholes have been reported throughout Florida due to Hurricane Milton, including in Polk County, as reported by Fox Weather. One such sinkhole has appeared between two residences in a neighborhood located between Lakeland and Zephyrhills.
