The excitement of Bama Rush Week at the University of Alabama came to a close with Bid Day.

After all the planning, outfit choices, and the behind-the-scenes activities of sorority recruitment, the moment arrived for potential new members, known as PNMs, to eagerly open their envelopes at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Sunday, August 18, revealing which sorority they would be joining. Following the intense moment known as “running home,” they were welcomed by their “big sister” (a mentor) along with their new sorority sisters who celebrated them with a variety of gifts like t-shirts and hats adorned with their sorority’s Greek letters.

While Bid Day signifies the end of Bama Rush Week, it marks the start of a new and exciting chapter for these young women as they begin their journey as sorority members.

Why is #BamaRush significant?

For many years, women have participated in rushing at the University of Alabama, but the trend gained widespread attention starting in 2021 thanks to TikTok. During this time, the daily outfit showcase, or OOTDs, leading up to Rush Week caught the eyes of users fascinated by the participants’ fashion choices. This trend has developed into an internet phenomenon, captivating social media users every year. It also led to the creation of a documentary titled “Bama Rush: Acceptance Is Everything,” which debuted on the Max streaming platform in May 2023.
