Snoop Dogg Faces Backlash for Controversial Performance at Crypto Event Marking Trump Inauguration Anniversary

Snoop Dogg faces backlash after performing at crypto event celebrating Trump’s inauguration

Some fans of Snoop Dogg are considering severing ties after his recent controversial appearance.

The 53-year-old rapper took to the stage on Friday at a Washington, D.C. event where cryptocurrency leaders marked the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

The occasion, termed the Inaugural Crypto Ball, was promoted on its site as a gathering “to celebrate the 60th Presidential Inauguration and America’s first ‘crypto president,’ President-elect Donald J. Trump, along with his incoming cabinet and administration.”

While the event did not include an appearance by Trump, his designated crypto advisor David Sacks served as the host for the evening.

Social media erupted with outrage from Trump detractors regarding Snoop Dogg’s involvement in the Crypto Ball just days before the upcoming swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

“It’s time to toss @SnoopDogg in the trash with the rest of Trump’s white supremacist, insurrection-supporting associates,” one post on X expressed.

“I have removed all Snoop Dogg songs from my playlists and blocked him on my accounts,” noted another user on the platform.

YSL News has reached out to Snoop Dogg’s representatives for their response.

Critics called out Snoop Dogg for hypocrisy, referencing a 2017 video where he vowed to “roast” any performer who would entertain at Trump’s inauguration.

He has voiced negative remarks about Trump before, stating in a 2020 interview that he planned to vote in that year’s election to ensure Trump did not remain in office.

“I think I’m going to get out and vote because I can’t bear to see this punk in office for another year,” he shared with Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Real 92.3.

However, in a 2024 interview with the Sunday Times, Snoop Dogg expressed admiration for Trump, saying he has “nothing but love and respect” for the former president.

“Donald Trump? He hasn’t done anything wrong to me,” he remarked. “He has only brought good things my way.”

Recently, country music star Carrie Underwood has also faced scrutiny for announcing her performance at Trump’s inauguration on Monday.

In her defense, Whoopi Goldberg spoke out on “The View,” stating, “I support her. If I believe I have the right to choose where to perform, then others should have the same right. So I must stand behind her.”
