Southwest Airlines pilot arrested for DUI in Georgia ‘removed from duty’: reports
A pilot for Southwest Airlines was apprehended in Georgia this week for allegedly driving under the influence, as reported by various outlets.
David Allsop, 52, from New Hampshire, was arrested at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport on Wednesday morning, according to reports from Fox 32 and CBS News.
The situation caused a lengthy delay for a flight that was scheduled to go to Chicago. A source informed CBS News that Allsop exhibited signs of alcohol consumption and was subsequently removed from the aircraft.
Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport did not immediately reply to YSL News’s inquiry regarding the incident.
Records from the Chatham County Sheriff’s office indicate that Allsop faces charges of driving under the influence, and he was released after posting a $3,500 bond.
Southwest Airlines confirmed to YSL News on Thursday that an employee has been “removed from duty.”
“We’re aware of an incident involving an employee on Flight 3772 Wednesday from Savannah,” a company spokesperson stated. “Passengers were placed on alternate flights, and we apologize for the inconvenience this caused to their travel plans. The safety of our staff and customers is our top priority at Southwest.”
Flight 3772 from Savannah to Chicago ended up arriving almost five hours late, as reported by FlightAware.
In a related incident earlier in 2023, a United Airlines pilot faced suspension and received a six-month suspended jail term after arriving at work intoxicated for a flight from Paris to Washington, D.C.
