Steve Bannon to Be Released from Prison on Tuesday After Serving 4-Month Sentence
WASHINGTON – Steve Bannon, who served as the White House chief strategist during Trump’s presidency, is set to leave a Connecticut prison on Tuesday, just a week before Election Day, after completing a 4-month sentence.
Bannon reported to prison in July for contempt of Congress due to his refusal to comply with a subpoena from the House committee looking into the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. He also faced a fine of $6,500.
A jury convicted him of two counts of contempt of Congress: one for not participating in a deposition and another for not submitting requested documents.
Bannon was one of two ex-Trump aides convicted for their noncompliance with the committee, the other being Peter Navarro, who completed his 4-month sentence in a federal prison in Miami and was released in July.
Bannon’s attempts to secure an early release and overturn his conviction failed.
He is known for hosting the “War Room” podcast that attracts millions of Trump supporters. While he was incarcerated, various guest hosts filled in, including Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas.
On his podcast, Bannon has continued to make unfounded claims regarding the 2020 election, alleging it was influenced by voter fraud. Similar assertions made by former President Trump to claim election interference have been dismissed by courts.
Bannon has previously stated that if Trump is reelected, his political adversaries will face investigations and prosecutions.
