‘Jackass’ star Steve-O cancels breast implants prank after meeting trans person
Steve-O was on the brink of undergoing surgery for a prank but had a last-minute revelation.
The 50-year-old “Jackass” star revealed to Consequence of Sound that he had plans to get breast implants as part of a stunt and was almost ready to proceed with the surgery. However, he changed his mind after a conversation with a transgender individual he met in a supermarket.
“The cashier appeared to be transgender, and it felt like a sign from the universe,” he reflected. “So, I asked if I could discuss something, and that conversation deeply affected me.”
The prank intended to have him don a disguise at a motorcycle rally to elicit strong reactions from bikers who would be surprised to realize it was him. He joked about being filmed getting beat up at the rally for better video footage.
However, the conversation Steve-O had with the cashier brought to light the “oppression” transgender individuals often endure, which he found to be “heartbreaking.” This realization prompted him to think, “Maybe this isn’t just a joke.” He voiced concerns that his prank could come off as promoting violence against trans individuals, leading him to scrap the entire idea.
Famous for his wild antics within the “Jackass” franchise, including the original MTV series and several films, Steve-O had first shared his plans for the breast implant prank on the X5 Podcast back in July.
“Years ago, I thought about getting breast implants to film a series of genuinely funny hidden camera pranks while in various outfits, only to reveal my true identity at the end,” he mentioned.
“I told the doctor openly that my main concern was looking awful afterward, and I’d reconsider if that was the case,” he shared. “The doctors assured me, ’It will be removed in two months. No problem at all.’”
On the podcast, he emphasized his determination not to let outside opinions influence his prank, believing in its comedic value. He noted feeling compelled to outdo his past stunts and acknowledged the pressure that came with it: “The challenge is so high that pushing boundaries might lead me to take things too far,” he stated. “In that context, getting a boob job feels like a massive leap.”
In the interview with Consequence of Sound, Steve-O admitted that he initially thought he understood his “intent” was not to hurt anyone, but he didn’t engage with the trans community beforehand. After realizing the potential impact, he found it hard to retract since he had publicly announced his plans but ultimately felt relieved he didn’t go through with it. “I believe it’s important to recognize when you’ve made a mistake,” he reflected.
