TSA Digital ID Checkpoints: 11 States Now Can Use Apple Wallet
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is becoming increasingly modern with technology. Last month, they announced that Hawaii has joined the list as the 11th state where digital IDs will be accepted at designated checkpoints.
“We’re excited to partner with the Hawaii Department of Transportation to bring digital IDs to the Aloha State. This innovation is part of our ongoing effort to enhance security in aviation without adding any costs for passengers,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Hawaii, Nanea Vasta.
Travelers with ID cards issued by any of these 11 states can store their information in their Apple Wallet for seamless use at various checkpoints nationwide.
- Arizona
- California
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Hawaii
- Iowa
- Maryland
- Nevada
- New York
- Ohio
- Utah
The digital ID systems at these checkpoints capture a traveler’s photo to verify their identity against their documents. According to the TSA, while they do not retain biometric data after verification, passengers can choose not to participate in the facial recognition process.
