GoFundMe campaigns launched for victims of the Apalachee High School shooting: Ways to contribute
A shooting incident at a Georgia school on Wednesday morning resulted in four fatalities and nine injuries.
The tragic event at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, led to the deaths of two students and two teachers, with additional injuries reported among eight students and one teacher.
In response to the shooting, there has been significant support emerging from across the country.
Several fundraising efforts on GoFundMe have raised over $100,000 as of September 5th, with GoFundMe setting up a specific portal for verified campaigns linked to the incident.
A message on the portal states, “On September 4, 2024, a shooting occurred at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, resulting in several deaths and injuries. The GoFundMe community is uniting to assist those impacted. Please consider donating to verified campaigns today to support the victims and their families.”
The statement further notes that GoFundMe’s trust and safety team will keep updating the portal as new fundraisers are verified.

Information on the Georgia school shooting
<p) Reports about an active shooter at Apalachee High School started arriving at law enforcement around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, as shared by Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey.
The victims were identified as Mason Schermerhorn, 14, Christian Angulo, 14, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.
The alleged shooter, a 14-year-old student, was taken into custody and charged with murder, according to the GBI. Authorities indicated he will be prosecuted as an adult.
As a precaution, all schools in Barrow County were placed on lockdown, with reports confirming this around 11:30 a.m. ET.
Later, Barrow County School System Superintendent Dallas LeDuff announced that schools would remain closed for the remainder of the week, with crisis counseling services being offered.
Apalachee High School is one of two high schools in the Barrow County district, serving approximately 1,900 students in a rural area with a population of about 18,300. Winder is located around 30 miles from Athens, Georgia.
A database maintained by YSL News, the Associated Press, and Northeastern University notes that this shooting marks the 604th mass killing in the U.S. since 2006, where four or more individuals lost their lives. Over 3,120 fatalities in mass killings have been recorded in the U.S. over the last 18 years.
A grieving community
Officials in Georgia are actively monitoring the situation.
“I have mobilized all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and encourage all Georgians to join my family in prayer for the safety of our students in Barrow County and across the state,” stated Governor Brian Kemp on Wednesday.
“Leigh Ann and I are praying for the victims, their families, and everyone at Apalachee High School in Barrow County,” said U.S. Representative Mike Collins, whose district includes Barrow County. He expressed gratitude toward law enforcement for their quick response that secured the school and apprehended the shooter.
That evening, residents of Winder gathered for a vigil to remember the victims.
”Love will overcome the tragedy we faced today,” expressed County Commissioner Alex Ward.
