Eco-Friendly Battery Recycling: Harnessing the Power of Citric Acid

A simple, highly efficient, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly process could provide a viable pathway for the sustainable recycling of depleted lithium-ion batteries (LIBs): No chemicals beyond citric acid need to be added to leach out and separate over 99 % of the lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese metals contained in NCM batteries. Carissa Moore Competed While Pregnant at the Paris Olympics

When Surfer Carissa Moore participated in the Paris Olympics, she had her own safety and that of her unborn child to think about.

Her father, Chris, revealed that she was two months pregnant while she competed.

“There were some days with unsettling and dangerous surf conditions,” he texted YSL News Sports. When asked if Carissa might have opted out of those competitions, he expressed uncertainty but acknowledged it was a stressful situation.

Carissa, who clinched a gold medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021, made it to the quarterfinals in Paris.

Carissa Moore did not reply immediately to a request for comment from YSL News Sports via Instagram.

In a recent Surfer magazine interview, she mentioned, “In the first trimester, there are so many changes happening in your body, including feeling sick, fatigued, and emotional, with random moments of tearfulness. But I was aware of this going in, so I just told myself to focus and push through.”

She continued, “Experiencing that loss helped me view the greater picture… I can now channel my energy into this beautiful journey ahead.”

Regarding her safety during the events, Chris Moore said, “You think about how the surfboard can hit your stomach, but the chances are slim. Yet surfing at hazardous waves like Teahupo’o means she had to consider everything.”

After the Olympics, Moore expressed that she was ready to enter a new chapter in her life. She and her husband, Luke, had talked about and were excited for having children.

On August 22, Moore shared pictures showcasing her baby bump and announced her pregnancy.

According to Moore, the baby is due in February, as she wrote on Instagram, “Thrilled to ride the biggest wave of our lives… the swell is set to arrive in February 2025.”

Her father shared that they held off on the announcement until they received good news from medical tests confirming the baby’s health.

A five-time world champion, Moore stepped back from the WSL to move into this new life phase after the 2023 season and the Olympics.
