Sydney Sweeney Responds to Body-Shaming Criticism, Receives Support from Glen Powell

Sydney Sweeney is not standing for body-shaming.

The “Euphoria” actress, 27, addressed negative remarks directed at her bikini photos shared by paparazzi via Instagram. She posted a video that compiled various hurtful comments, with some labeling her as “chunky” and suggesting she needs to lose weight.

The video transitioned to clips of Sweeney training for her role as boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic, showcasing her workouts, fights in the ring, and muscle flexing. She chose not to include a caption with the video.

Many celebrities rallied to support Sweeney, including Glen Powell, her co-star from the romantic comedy “Anyone But You.” In a comment on her post, Powell commended Sweeney, stating her Martin biopic will be “fire.”

Isabela Merced, star of “Alien: Romulus,” commented that those making such remarks wouldn’t have the courage to say them in person, as they’re “too scared.” Sweeney liked her supportive comment.

Lili Reinhart from “Riverdale” chimed in, stating that Sweeney looks “incredible” and praised her dedication to her role. Kesha referred to Sweeney as a “strong baddie,” while Rachel Brosnahan showed support with three fire emojis.

This year, it was announced that Sweeney would portray Christy Martin, the first female boxer signed under a contract by Don King. Black Bear described the film as the “extraordinary true story of the tough Christy Martin, who became the most successful female boxer in America during the 1990s.”

After finishing filming for the project in November, Sweeney expressed on Instagram that it was “one of the most emotional, transformative experiences of my life.”

“This story is far more significant than just a movie,” she remarked. “It’s about resilience, survival, and finding the strength to keep fighting. I am excited for you all to see it—not only because I’m proud of the transformation and dedication I’ve put into it, but because Christy’s story deserves to be shared.”

Recently speaking with YSL News, Sweeney mentioned that she has been “living in workout clothes” since June while focusing on the film and joked, “I hardly remember wearing anything else.”

Previously, Sweeney called out film producer Carol Baum for reportedly stating during a Q&A that she is “not pretty” and “can’t act.” A statement from Sweeney’s representative shared with YSL News at the time remarked, “It’s sad that someone in a position to impart their knowledge chooses to attack another woman instead.”
