SZA Set to Join Kendrick Lamar at Super Bowl Halftime Show

Kendrick Lamar is set to have a remarkable guest at the upcoming Super Bowl.

A recently released trailer for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show revealed that SZA will be joining Lamar for his performance on February 9.

In the trailer, the “Not Like Us” rapper is seen on the phone while standing on a football field, mentioning that he has been considering a special guest for the show. Just then, SZA approaches him from behind and, in slow motion, pours a bucket of Gatorade over him.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of SZA’s film, “One of Them Days,” featuring Keke Palmer, which recently earned the No. 2 spot at the box office and garnered positive reviews.

Lamar was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show back in September. This news was shared in a video showing the Pulitzer Prize-winning artist on a football field in front of an enormous American flag.

“Rap music remains the most powerful genre today,” Lamar stated at that time. “And I will be there to show the world why. They picked the right one.”

Lamar and SZA have worked together frequently, including on the song “30 for 30” from her December album “Lana.” Additionally, SZA featured on “Luther” and “Gloria,” tracks from Lamar’s most recent album “GNX,” released in November. Their collaboration “All the Stars” from “Black Panther: The Album,” produced in 2018, even received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.

In December, both artists confirmed they would be touring together on the Grand National Tour, which is set to begin in April.

Lamar is coming off a significant year that included a public feud with fellow rapper Drake, culminating in the release of the fierce diss track “Not Like Us.” This song, where he targets Drake, became one of the biggest hits of his career and earned nominations for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the recent Grammy Awards.

In 2022, Lamar performed at a star-studded Super Bowl halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.
