Taylor Swift backs Kamala Harris. This is significant – even if it doesn’t seem so to you.
Swift’s endorsement was expected after Trump shared an AI-created image of her supporting him weeks ago. She claims that was her motivation to publicly discuss her voting intentions.
Taylor Swift recently announced her support for Kamala Harris for president, playfully referring to herself as a “Childless Cat Lady” in an Instagram update following the debate on Tuesday night.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the causes I care about and needs a strong advocate,” Swift expressed on Instagram, sharing a picture of herself with her cat. “I believe she is a calm, skilled leader and we can achieve so much more in this country if we choose calm over chaos.”
Many individuals – likely those outside of the “stan culture” – may not recognize the importance of this endorsement. However, for her fans, known as Swifties, it carries significant weight. They had already begun organizing under the banner “Swifties for Kamala.”
Swift previously said she wanted to ensure she was “on the right side of history,” knowing her endorsement would attract considerable attention. For Harris, this endorsement comes as a perfect addition to her already successful debate evening.
Donald Trump attempted to speak for Taylor Swift
This endorsement was inevitable after Trump released an AI-generated image of Swift endorsing him weeks earlier. Swift now claims this was her motivation to clarify her voting intentions.
“The best way to counter misinformation is with the truth,” Swift stated in her Instagram post.
This perspective is crucial for a celebrity, especially since Trump has previously tried to misrepresent her views. It adds extra significance to what was already a highly anticipated endorsement and it’s sure to ruffle some feathers in the MAGA community.
Swift’s endorsement follows a problematic debate for Trump
Harris had an impressive debate performance, effectively provoking Trump and forcing him to reveal his more extreme viewpoints.
He couldn’t resist making bizarre claims, such as alleging that Harris “wants to perform gender reassignment surgeries on undocumented immigrants in prison” and suggesting that immigrants are trying to steal your pets.
Trump was also challenged on his numerous inaccuracies during the debate, thanks to on-the-spot fact-checking by moderators Linsey Davis and David Muir.
Ultimately, Harris showcased an exceptional performance, which seems to be yielding positive results for her campaign.
Swift joins a group of celebrities supporting Harris
Other famous personalities have also openly supported Harris. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has consistently praised the vice president, performing at a Harris event in Atlanta back in July and actively encouraging voter participation.
“Living in a time where a Black woman or a woman in general could become president is such a blessing,” she recently shared with Billboard. “This is the future we’re heading towards.”
Beyoncé has also shown support for Harris, although she hasn’t publicly endorsed anyone. Instead, she has allowed the candidate to use her song “Freedom” in her campaign.
Swift’s actions are not surprising – celebrities endorsing candidates is a common occurrence. Her supporters deeply care about her choices, even if the broader public isn’t yet aware of their potential impact.
