Catch Taylor Swift’s performance of ‘London Boy’ at Wembley Stadium
LONDON — As the spotlight gleamed on Taylor Swift in her pink dress, the crowd erupted in cheers. Fans at the end of the catwalk waved excitedly as she took the microphone to share her unique performance style: one song on guitar and another on piano.
“I never repeat anything,” Swift told the audience, and she proved that by unveiling a song never performed live before during the Eras Tour. “Throughout the evening, I’ve been thinking, ‘How much I adore the English.'”
She stepped away from the microphone and began playing, prompting fans to realize she was about to perform “London Boy” from the “Lover” album.
In this upbeat track, Swift expresses her fondness for various locations in London, mentioning places like Camden Market, Highgate, West End, Brixton, Shoreditch, Hackney, Bond Street, and the Heath. Unlike previous concerts in 2024, Swift played the song solo rather than mixing it with another, but she altered the lyrics to say, “You know I love a London boy, I like performing at Wembley, snoozing until the afternoon.”
The original song features a spoken introduction by English actor Idris Elba, who was present at Thursday’s performance. Elba jokingly says, “We can cruise around London, just on my scooter,” triggering laughter from Swift.
Following her guitar performance, Swift creatively combined “Dear John” from “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” with “Sad Beautiful Tragic” from “Red (Taylor’s Version).”
There are only 11 songs remaining from her studio albums that she hasn’t performed this tour:
- “Fearless”: “Change,” “That’s When,” and “Bye Bye Baby”
- “Red”: “Girl At Home,” “Ronan,” and “Forever Winter”
- “Reputation”: “I Did Something Bad”
- “Lover”: “Soon You’ll Get Better”
- “The Tortured Poets Department”: “So Long, London,” “Florida!!!,” and “Cassandra”
Fans are hopeful she’ll include “So Long London” in her final performance at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.
