Taylor Swift supports Kamala Harris. This matters – even if you think otherwise.
Swift’s endorsement follows Trump’s AI-generated photo of her supporting him, which she claims inspired her to share her voting intentions.
Taylor Swift recently expressed her support for Kamala Harris for president, humorously referring to herself as a “Childless Cat Lady” in a post on Instagram after the debate on Tuesday night.
In her Instagram post, Swift wrote, “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champions them,” alongside a snapshot of herself with her cat. “She is a steady-handed, talented leader and I believe our country can achieve far more under calm leadership rather than chaos.”
Many may not grasp the significance of this endorsement, particularly those detached from “stan culture.” However, the endorsement’s real audience is her fans, who have already begun organizing under the banner “Swifties for Kamala.”
Swift has stated in the past her desire to be “on the right side of history,” fully aware that her endorsement would draw attention. For Harris, this moment adds to an already impressive debate night.
Trump tried to speak on behalf of Taylor Swift
This endorsement was anticipated following Donald Trump’s posting of an AI-generated image of Swift purportedly endorsing him a few weeks ago. Swift indicated that this incident inspired her to clarify her voting intentions.
In her post, she stated, “The best way to counter misinformation is with the truth.”
Such a perspective is crucial for a public figure, especially given Trump’s attempts to misrepresent her views. This situation amplifies the significance of her anticipated endorsement and is likely to incite reactions from his supporters.
Swift’s endorsement comes after Trump’s controversial debate
Harris had an impressive performance during the debate, managing to expose Trump’s true character through her strategic responses.
Trump made outrageous claims such as Harris wanting to conduct transgender surgeries on undocumented immigrants in prisons and insinuated that immigrants posed a threat to people’s pets.
Additionally, he faced scrutiny for several of his falsities during the debate due to real-time fact-checking from moderators Linsey Davis and David Muir.
Overall, Harris’s performance was stellar and appears to be rewarding her already.
Swift joins a growing list of celebrities backing Harris
Other celebrities have also openly shown their support for Harris. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has been an outspoken advocate for the vice president. She performed at a Harris rally in Atlanta in July and actively encourages her followers to vote.
“It’s a blessing to witness a time when a Black woman, or any woman, could potentially be president. I feel incredibly fortunate,” she stated in a recent interview with Billboard. “This is what the future is all about.”
Beyoncé has also exhibited her support for Harris, using her song “Freedom” in Harris’s campaign, despite not making a public endorsement.
Swift’s actions are standard for a celebrity; endorsing a candidate is a common practice. While everyone may not recognize the immediate impact of her support, her fans certainly value it.
