Ted Danson to receive Carol Burnett Award at 2025 Golden Globes

When it comes to legendary TV figures, Ted Danson has firmly secured his place.

The celebrated Golden Globe actor is set to be honored with the Carol Burnett Award during the 2025 Golden Globe Awards ceremony, as announced on Monday.

This accolade, established in 2019 and named after the esteemed actress and comedian Carol Burnett, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to television, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

“Ted Danson has captivated audiences for many years with his memorable performances that have left an indelible mark on television,” stated Helen Hoehne, President of the Golden Globes. “His illustrious career exemplifies his extraordinary talent and adaptability as an actor, mirroring the legacy of the award’s namesake.”

Previous winners of the Carol Burnett Award include Burnett herself (2019), Ellen DeGeneres (2020), Norman Lear (2021), and Ryan Murphy (2023). The award was not handed out last year due to the scheduling of the Globes ceremony.

At 76, Danson first gained fame for his role as Sam Malone, a bartender in the Boston bar setting of NBC’s “Cheers.” The beloved sitcom aired for 11 seasons and garnered four Emmy Awards for outstanding comedy series.

Danson has also appeared in notable series like “The Good Place,” “Mr. Mayor,” and Netflix’s “A Man on the Inside.” His film credits include “Hearts Beat Loud,” “Three Men and a Baby,” and Steven Spielberg’s World War II film “Saving Private Ryan.”

Danson has previously won Golden Globes for best actor in a limited series for “Something About Amelia” (1985) and for best actor in a musical or comedy series for “Cheers” (in both 1990 and 1991).

In addition to receiving the Carol Burnett Award, Danson will be celebrated at a gala dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 3, 2025, alongside fellow actor Viola Davis, who is also a recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

The Golden Globes ceremony is scheduled to be aired on January 5, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET.
