Temple parts ways with football coach Stan Drayton after FAU victory
Even after clinching an overtime victory on Saturday, Temple University has let go of coach Stan Drayton with two games left in the season.
The Owls managed to overcome Florida Atlantic 18-15 in overtime, raising their season record to 3-7 under Drayton, but it was insufficient to retain his position.
“I want to express my gratitude to Coach Drayton for his dedication to Temple University, our athletes, and the football program during his time here,” stated Temple athletic director Arthur Johnson.
At 53 years of age, Drayton was in his third year at Temple after serving previously as the running backs coach and associate head coach at Texas.
During his three seasons as head coach, Drayton led the Owls to a 9-25 overall record. Everett Withers, the defensive coordinator, will step in as the interim head coach for the remaining two games of the regular season.
The Temple football team has not achieved a winning record since 2019.
