Tesla set to reveal robotaxi at ‘We, Robot’ event

Tesla is ready to showcase its self-driving taxi at the upcoming “We, Robot” event on Thursday night.

The vehicle, known as the “Cybercab,” was initially scheduled for an August unveiling, but has been promoted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk since 2019.

This revelation follows a report from Reuters detailing Musk’s ambition to establish a Tesla-operated autonomous ride-hailing service utilizing cars owned by individuals when they’re not in use.

The timing of this event is significant as the company’s reputation is being affected by its CEO’s shift towards supporting former President Donald Trump’s campaign.

Here’s what to know about the “We, Robot” event.

How to tune into Tesla’s “We, Robot” event

You can watch the event live on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Musk aimed for a 2020 robotaxi launch

The company estimated that each driverless car would last for 11 years and cover 1 million miles, generating an annual profit of $30,000. Additionally, he mentioned that a ride-sharing app similar to Uber and Airbnb would accompany the cars.

At present, U.S. and Chinese authorities have only permitted limited and experimental applications of self-driving vehicles on public roads.

The automaker is dealing with lawsuits and investigations concerning accidents linked to its autopilot and Full Self-Driving technology, which Tesla claims are primarily caused by driver inattention.

Tesla falls short of delivery expectations in Q3

Last week, Tesla fell below Wall Street’s delivery forecasts in its third-quarter report.

According to Electrek, analysts predicted around 463,000 deliveries for the quarter, whereas Tesla announced 462,890.

The majority of these deliveries were from the Model 3 and Model Y, with nearly 440,000 units delivered. Just under 23,000 units from other models were delivered combined.
