Texas Rises to No. 1 in US LBM Coaches Poll Following Alabama’s Upset of Georgia

This past weekend’s thrilling college football events shook up the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Texas has taken over the number one spot, edging out Alabama by a slim margin, after Georgia was dethroned. The Longhorns secured 29 out of 55 first-place votes and finished just nine points ahead of the Crimson Tide, marking their first No. 1 ranking in the coaches poll since October 26, 2008.

Alabama garnered first-place votes on 19 ballots following their dramatic win over Georgia. Ohio State also received seven first-place votes but remains at No. 3 after defeating Michigan State in their Big Ten opener. Following a bye week, Tennessee climbed to No. 4, pushing Georgia down to fifth place.

This weekend also saw two additional top-10 teams suffer defeats at home. Mississippi plummeted six spots to No. 11 after a loss to Kentucky, while Utah fell eight positions to No. 18 following their loss to Arizona.

The outcomes opened opportunities for movement within the lower half of the top 10. Oregon, Penn State, and Miami (Fla.) all improved by one position, with Missouri rising to No. 9 and Michigan re-entering the top 10.

This week, Indiana made a notable entry into the Top 25, starting the season with an impressive 5-0 record. This marks the Hoosiers’ first appearance in the poll since the preseason rankings of 2021. Illinois managed to hang on to the No. 25 spot despite a loss to Penn State, finishing with a 19-point lead over Boise State.

Oklahoma State is the only team that dropped out of the rankings this week.
