TGL Showdown: Tiger Woods’ Team Emerges Victorious Over Rory McIlroy’s Crew

TGL Recap: Key Highlights as Tiger Woods’ Team Defeats Rory McIlroy’s Team

Tiger Woods received great support from his teammates, marking a fresh victory against Rory McIlroy in their TGL matchup.

Woods’ team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, faced a loss in their first TGL golf event. However, they rebounded impressively on Monday night, clinching a 4-3 victory over McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf.

McIlroy, partnering with Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley, kept the pressure on Jupiter Links throughout the game. Scott made a clutch 30-foot putt on the second to last hole to level the match. Fortunately for Jupiter Links, Tom Kim was part of the team that night. He almost made a remarkable bunker shot on hole 15 that could have won them the hole, helping to keep the match tied and force an overtime.

In the overtime round, Kim took the lead by scoring the first point for Jupiter Links. A key shot from Kevin Kisner followed, sealing the win just two weeks after their defeat against the Los Angeles Golf Club, where they lost 12-1.

Here are the standout moments and analysis from the matchup between Jupiter Links Golf Club and Boston Common Golf in Week 4 of TGL:

Final Score: Jupiter Links Wins 4-3 (Overtime)

The anticipated face-off between Tiger and Rory hinged on 22-year-old Tom Kim, whose precise short game allowed Jupiter Links to equalize with Boston Common at 3-3 in regulation play.

As they entered overtime, Kim again stepped up, securing the first point for his team. A solid 37-yard shot from Kevin Kisner clinched the hard-won victory.

Overtime: Jupiter Links Prevails in Closest to the Pin Shootout

In overtime, teams alternate shots from 36 yards away, aiming to score in a best-of-three format. The tension quickly mounted for Woods’ squad.

Keegan Bradley went first but left the ball 26 feet from the hole. Kim, showcasing his skills throughout the night, exceeded that distance significantly. After Kisner barely missed the hole, Jupiter Links captured the first two points, sealing the match in an exhilarating evening of TGL golf.

Hole 15: Off to Overtime

Tom Kim was exceptional throughout the day but found himself in a bunker with his second shot. Keegan Bradley misjudged his lengthy putt, leaving Kim a chance from the sand, but he came up short. Nearly pulling off a miracle on his fourth shot, Kim left it just inches from the hole.

Bradley’s subsequent putt also missed, leading us into overtime for TGL with a closest to the pin format.

Hole 14: The Match is Tied Again

Kevin Kisner hit left on his tee shot, ending up about 30 feet from the hole. Adam Scott, needing a bit more power, fell short by 31 feet.

With Jupiter Links in the lead, Scott faced a significant putt and made it. Despite the pressure and the tick of the shot clock, Kisner missed his putt to the side. This gave the hole to Boston Common, tying the match 3-3 as they moved to a crucial par 5.

Hole 13: A Short-Game Battle Between Woods and McIlroy

After impressive tee shots, both Woods and McIlroy found their approach shots off the green. Woods was further out, while McIlroy was closer but struggled in a bunker.

Woods ended up with a challenging 8-foot putt, while McIlroy overshot his bunker shot by nine feet. McIlroy putted first, adding pressure on Woods. When the stakes were high, Woods stepped up confidently, sinking his par putt and keeping Jupiter Links ahead at 3-2.

Hole 12: Tom Kim Dazzles Again

Tom Kim remained the standout player on Hole 12, almost sinking his tee shot, achieving the closest approach in TGL’s history.

Keegan Bradley had the chance to equalize with a 22-foot putt but missed. For the first time in TGL’s history, Jupiter Links had taken the lead, now at 3-2.

Hole 11: Kisner’s Moment

Kevin Kisner, previously a target of jokes in TGL, had his redemption when Adam Scott faltered on his approach shot. Woods attempted a big play but couldn’t capitalize, leaving Jupiter Links with just one point.

Kisner delivered in a crucial moment, tying the match at 2-2.

Hole 10: Tiger Gets Guidance from Charlie, but It Falls Short

In his first singles hole, Tiger Woods opted to use his driver, a tip from his son, Charlie. He nailed his first two shots, positioning himself for a long eagle attempt.

However, McIlroy matched his shots. Woods’ first putt overshot, while McIlroy made his birdie. Woods needed to sink an 8.5-foot putt to tie but fell victim to a shot clock violation, marking the first of its kind in TGL. It resulted in an uneventful conclusion to the hole, allowing Boston Common to regain the lead at 2-1.

Woods’ putt was off target anyway.

Hole 9: Boston Common’s Birdie Matched by Jupiter Links

Though Keegan Bradley struggled on the day, he managed to score a birdie on Hole 9 from 11 feet out, creating pressure on Kim to respond.

Kim, undeniably the best player thus far, stepped up and sank an 8-foot birdie. After failing to secure any birdies two weeks prior, Jupiter Links now had two birdies in the first nine holes, keeping the match tied as they headed into singles play.

Hole 8: No Greens in Regulation, but It Doesn’t Matter

Both teams missed their chances to take the lead with wayward approach shots, leading to challenging recoveries from McIlroy and Woods.

In a surprising turn, Adam Scott managed to make an 11-foot putt for par, prompting a bold move from Boston. Kevin Kisner needed to nail a 10-foot putt to maintain the tie, and he did just that. Even though both teams’ approach shots failed to reach the green, they kept the match level.

Hole 7: Woods’ Tee Shot Puts Jupiter Links in Trouble

After tying the score, Woods put Kisner in a tight spot, hitting his shot over the green and forcing Kisner to make a challenging uphill shot to reach the green. Meanwhile, McIlroy had a solid approach, landing just 15 feet from the hole.

Despite a strong second shot from Kisner, Adam Scott placed his shot next to the hole. Kim needed to make a 9.5-foot putt to keep the match tied, which he successfully did.
putt of the night keeps the score level as we near the Par 4 8th hole.

Hole 6: Boston secures a bogey, Jupiter gets a score

After a rough beginning to the hole, Jupiter found itself with an 11-foot putt for a birdie, while Boston had already chalked up a bogey. Kisner’s putt missed but was close enough for Boston to acknowledge.

We’re back to square one, 1-1.

Hole 5: Another hammer thrown

Jupiter Links waited for Keegan Bradley to miss his 23-foot birdie putt. Once that putt settled, Tom Kim was handed the chance with an 18-foot putt to win the hole but unfortunately put it wide.

McIlroy needed to make a 5-foot putt to tie the hole and he nailed it. The hammer has changed teams four times, yet the score remains 1-0 in favor of Boston Common.

Hole 4: Kisner delivers his finest TGL shot, but Scott shines brighter

After impressive tee shots from both McIlroy and Woods, Kevin Kisner made the standout shot of his TGL journey, almost reaching the green on a Par 5. Despite claiming he mishit it, it was clearly his best effort in TGL.

Then came Adam Scott from Boston Common, who had to steal the spotlight. Not only did he hit the green, but he also left his teammates a mere 13 feet from the hole with a chance for TGL’s first-ever eagle. However, that didn’t happen. Following a missed eagle attempt, Woods had the chance to make Jupiter Links history with a medium-range putt for the first birdie but still fell short, keeping Boston Common in the lead.

Hole 3: Boston Common pulls ahead

With Jupiter Links sending their tee shot into the bunker, it fell to Tiger Woods to reach the green in two. Unfortunately, Woods faltered, leaving the ball where it started. Boston Common seized a straightforward win, marking the first score of the evening.

1-0 Boston going into hole 4.

Hole 2: Boston Common dodges a penalty, stays in the game

Jupiter Links sought a penalty after Keegan Bradley hit a poor second shot behind the virtual crowd, but no penalty was given. Boston Common still had a chance to win the hole after reaching the green in three.

Despite Jupiter Links not being on the green, they felt optimistic about winning the hole. They played the hammer, but Kevin Kisner’s putt went awry, putting the pressure on Tom Kim to make a difficult putt for Boston Common.

Keegan Bradley managed to sink a three-foot, five-inch putt to keep the score at 0-0.

Hole 1: McIlroy’s hammer misfires

After strong drives from Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, less-than-ideal second shots gave Keegan Bradley and Tom Kim the chance to set their captains up for pars.

Unfortunately for Woods, he missed his par putt for Jupiter Links, and McIlroy’s attempt with the hammer resulted in doubling the hole’s point tally, leading to a five-foot putt for him to win.

Sadly, McIlroy’s shot skimmed the edge, handing the hammer over to Woods’ team as we head into Hole 2 still tied.

ClutchPoints: Boston Common Golf

Cameron Zunkel notes, “It’s easy to admire Tiger Woods, yet we need to accept that he’s not the same competitor he once was. Kevin Kisner is also facing significant struggles. Covers: Boston Common Golf to lead after nine holes

Neil Parker comments: “We’ve been fortunate to find good opportunities to bet on the stronger team recently. This time around, Boston arrives justifiably as the favorite, and I’m happy to back Rory and his team at -188 through FanDuel or bet365, especially since DraftKings and Caesars offer -230. We’ve observed that the superior team manages to create distance during alternate-shot holes, and I see Boston doing that again.”

Sports Illustrated: 2 Units on Boston Common (at -235 odds)

Iain MacMillan expresses, “When Tom Kim is at his peak, he can compete with McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott. However, his recent form has been disappointing, finishing T65 at the Sony Open and missing the cut at the American Express, signaling poor performance. Thus, I’m setting my bets on Boston Common for Monday night.”
