The Egg Price Conundrum: Understanding the Surge Beyond Political Solutions

Why Are Egg Prices So High? Trump Doesn’t Seem to Care. | Opinion

Maybe if we were dealing with undocumented Guatemalan chickens, President Trump would pay more attention to the bird flu problem.

Why isn’t President Donald Trump addressing the rising cost of eggs? I’ve heard repeatedly that high grocery prices are a top concern for American voters, which even led them to choose a convicted felon over a highly qualified woman as president.

I thought, “Okay, that’s a bit irrational, but at least egg prices should decrease now!” And I really enjoy eating eggs!

However, now I find reports indicating that egg prices will keep climbing. A recent CNN headline stated: “Expect record-high egg prices for most of the year.”

I didn’t see that coming! I was led to believe that the man who was elected to tackle the issue of egg pricing would actually resolve it. Did he forget? Is Trump, now 78, experiencing cognitive decline like some claimed about President Joe Biden?

I was promised quick action on egg prices from Trump – but they keep increasing

I understand Trump has only been in office for a short while, but he vowed to address egg prices swiftly, stating after his election: “We’re going to bring those prices way down.”

To be fair, “record-high egg prices for most of the year” hardly qualifies as swift action or a decrease.

Trump is too occupied with pointless issues to focus on bird flu

Some may argue that it’s not Trump’s fault since the spread of bird flu among U.S. poultry farms is a significant factor in the price surge. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that over 136 million birds have either contracted or been killed by avian influenza.

To that, I respond, “Okay, but what exactly is Trump doing to assist the poultry sector, curb the bird flu outbreak, and bring my egg prices down so I can enjoy my breakfast omelet?”

It appears the answer is: nothing. Instead, he’s preoccupied with threatening other countries with tariffs and deporting people, actions that could jeopardize America’s food supply, as noted in a recent Harvard Business Review article, potentially turning everyday items, like berries, into luxury items.

I don’t want berries to become luxury items. I prefer luxury items to remain luxury goods while berries are a staple alongside my eggs for breakfast.

What if we just inject all the chickens with bleach to lower prices?

Perhaps if the problem involved undocumented Guatemalan chickens, President Trump would allocate time to confront the bird flu crisis. Or maybe he thinks he can strong-arm the birds with tariffs and encourage them to manage their flu issues on their own.

If the U.S. Senate approves Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Trump’s selection to run the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC and collaborates with the USDA, maybe they could create a vaccine … but I wouldn’t count on it.

If Trump secures Kennedy’s approval, it’s more likely they’ll attempt to combat bird flu and lower egg costs by injecting all the chickens in America with a mix of bleach and horse dewormer.

Alternatively, Kennedy might mandate that all poultry farmers provide their chickens with raw milk.

Maybe the president doesn’t really have much control over food prices

The situation is quite chaotic, leading one to wonder how much a president can really influence food prices—especially not easily.

Recently, Vice President JD Vance mentioned on CBS News’ “Face the Nation”: “Prices are going to come down, but it’s going to take a little bit of time.”

Alright, I can accept that.

However, neither Trump nor Vance indicated during the campaign that lowering food prices would take “a little bit of time.”

During Trump’s administration, Republicans blamed Biden for high food prices and inflation, even when it was evident that the COVID-19 pandemic was largely responsible for those issues.

And as inflation began to decrease, Republicans didn’t credit Biden. They simply continued to blame him for elevated food costs that had been on the rise and likely wouldn’t decrease anytime soon.

If Republicans blamed Biden for food prices, I’m placing the blame on Trump now

So, if Biden had to take the heat for high egg prices, even unjustly, I’ll definitely insist that Trump bear the blame now, especially since he and his team seem more focused on unkind policies toward transgender individuals and migrants instead of finding ways to make eggs affordable.

Perhaps they could focus on actually HELPING TO RESOLVE THE BIRD FLU ISSUE INSTEAD OF DABBLING WITH AN INVASION OF GREENLAND!!

Over the weekend, Trump came dangerously close to initiating a trade conflict with Colombia, which might have raised our coffee prices. He continues to threaten tariffs on Canada and Mexico. If he proceeds with deportations or intimidates migrant farm workers, our crops might start spoiling.

I have a feeling that “a little bit of time” that Vance mentioned to lower grocery prices could extend into a “considerable period of time.”

It’s almost as if Trump and his team never truly cared about the costs that everyday people face for eggs in the first place.
