This house from ‘Home Alone’ is up for sale. No, it’s not the famous one.
This property was created by renowned Chicago architect Benjamin Marshall, famous for his elaborate designs.
A house featured in the beloved holiday film “Home Alone” is now on the market, but it’s not the one where Kevin McCallister defended his home against intruders while his family was away in France.
This particular home is situated at 681 Lincoln Ave. in Winnetka, Illinois, just next to the iconic McCallister residence from the 1990 movie. It made a brief appearance as “Old Man” Marley’s house in the first film. The asking price is $3.79 million, as stated on the real estate listing.
The three-story house offers six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms. The property spans two-thirds of an acre and includes amenities like an in-ground pool, putting green, and a half basketball court. Additional features include multiple patios, a screened porch, a balcony, two staircases leading to the second level, and an in-law suite. The house was built in 1898.
Annika Valdiserri, a broker at @properties, a Chicago real estate agency, initially listed the property at $4.19 million in July, she shared with YSL News. The last time this house was on the market was in 2014, priced at $2.87 million. Valdiserri mentioned that the current owners have lived in the home since 2003.
Valdiserri noted that the listing will be taking a “holiday break,” meaning it will only be accessible to brokers and not posted on consumer sites like Zillow until the end of January.
The actual “Home Alone” house, located next door at 671 Lincoln Ave., was also up for sale this year, listed at $5.25 million in May. Kathryn Moor, a broker with Coldwell Banker Realty, confirmed to YSL News on Wednesday that the home is currently pending a sale.

Home crafted by renowned Chicago architect
For Valdiserri, the most meaningful aspect of the home is not just its role in “Home Alone,” but that it was designed by the esteemed Chicago architect Benjamin Marshall. Known for his exquisite and elaborate designs, Marshall’s work often showcases detailed craftsmanship coupled with high-quality materials, as noted by the Benjamin Marshall Society.
Marshall was responsible for several prominent buildings in Chicago, including The Blackstone Hotel on Michigan Avenue and the East Lake Shore Drive District, according to the Benjamin Marshall Society. His portfolio includes the design of hotels, residential buildings, theaters, and even industrial facilities. While he primarily worked in Chicago, he also created structures in cities like New York and Los Angeles.
Valdiserri mentioned that the residence at 681 Lincoln Ave. is one of only two homes in Winnetka designed by Marshall.
