The Sports Bra announces collaboration with LA women’s soccer team for streaming service
The Sports Bra, a bar dedicated to women’s sports, revealed on Tuesday that it is teaming up with United City FC Women, a minor-league women’s soccer team in Los Angeles, to launch a streaming channel.
The Roku application will offer live broadcasts of games and is set for testing at Sports Bra locations in Spring 2025, aiming to enhance the viewing experience in the bar.
“The current surge in women’s sports is just beginning, and the traction is growing every day,” stated Jenny Nguyen, the founder and CEO of The Sports Bra, in a press release.
The club also shared its intention to go on an international tour, though specific opponents have not been announced.
“To truly advance women in sports, we must collaborate with other visionaries and passionate change-makers who not only invest their resources but do so with genuine commitment,” mentioned Steven Hawthorne, owner of UCFC Women, in the release.
What is The Sports Bra?
Founded in 2022 in Portland, Oregon, The Sports Bra is the first bar exclusively showcasing women’s sports.
Earlier this year, the bar received funding from Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and part-owner of NWSL’s Angel City Football Club, to explore franchising opportunities.
No new locations beyond the original in Portland have been disclosed yet, but a franchise application website was launched in September.
What is United City FC Women?
Established in 2019, United City FC Women positions itself as a club dedicated to providing opportunities for players who have traditionally been overlooked.
The club aims to support diverse players, including those who may not have had access to college opportunities, older players looking to return, mothers resuming play, and minority athletes from various backgrounds who have not had their talents recognized, as noted in their press release.
This year, UCFC Women sent five players to the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, according to the club.
