Opinion: Progressives Insult Americans After Trump’s Win. Who Benefits?

The Left’s Lack of Self-Awareness and Overconfidence are Eye-Opening Following the Republican Party’s Major Victory.

Since Donald Trump garnered an impressive 312 Electoral College votes to secure his presidency again, progressives have reacted in various dramatic ways. Some have exhibited childish outbursts, others have shown elitist contempt, and many have labeled the 75.6 million people who supported Trump as uneducated, sexist, and racist.

Their lack of self-reflection, combined with a self-righteous and misguided sense of superiority, has been striking in light of the Republican Party’s resounding win.

If progressives choose not to grasp why voters decisively turned away from them and Vice President Kamala Harris, that’s their issue. They will only fall further behind as conservatives chart the course for the country’s future.

I hope more Americans will come to realize that they too stand to gain from a conservative presidency.

Are over 75 million Americans Uninformed, or Are Progressives Out of Touch?

In the aftermath of the election, prominent leftists reacted with disdain towards ordinary Americans, questioning their intelligence, morals, and decisions. Here are some highlights:

  • Jill Filipovic, a feminist author, commented on her Substack: “As we reflect on what went wrong for Harris, we must also question why so many Americans eagerly voted for Donald Trump again. This election isn’t just a critique of Kamala Harris; it’s a critique of our country.”
  • MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle referred to Americans’ choice as a gamble: “We are betting on Donald Trump, a man who did two nearly impossible things: he won the presidency twice and ran a casino into the ground. What does the future hold, now that we’ve chosen this path?”
  • In Rolling Stone, Asawin Suebsaeng noted: “At Trump’s election night party in Florida, it was painfully clear how many boring and unremarkable individuals the American elite comprises.”
  • Susan B. Glasser wrote in The New Yorker: “Trump’s election is a troubling insight into the true nature of the United States, contrasting sharply with the image many hoped it would embody.”
  • After the election, Stephen Colbert told his audience, “I wish this hadn’t occurred, but that’s not our decision to make. We live in a democracy, and in this democracy, the majority has spoken, showing little regard for conventional ideas.”

These statements about America and its citizens are fundamentally misguided. Voters did not turn away from democracy; they moved against far-left ideologies and politicians.

Conservatives are deeply committed to democracy and the United States. However, we – along with a growing number of moderates – reject the far-left perspective on how society functions or should operate.

We have been inundated with leftist narratives from all sides of the media and entertainment industries for many years. We understand the left’s viewpoint, and that informed our decision to vote against progressive figures and their agendas.

Progressives’ childish reactions to the election result stem from their belief that more government is the answer to all issues. Hence, if the “wrong” leaders are elected, catastrophe is inevitable.

The left is so agitated that they’re willing to jeopardize personal relationships. Dr. Amanda Calhoun, a psychiatrist associated with Yale, stated on MSNBC that it is “perfectly acceptable to avoid” family members who voted for Trump.

On “The View,” co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg concurred: “It makes sense to step back when someone has voted not only against family values but against you and the people you care about,” Hostin remarked.

While not all Democrats have reacted so vehemently to the election results, the extreme response from the left-leaning media is still significant.

Voters Dismissed Leftists’ Dire Warnings About Trump

Coming to terms with being wrong is never easy.

I’m wrong every day—just ask my kids. However, the left’s response to Trump’s victory has been both disappointing and eye-opening.

The mainstream media quickly realized that, despite nearly a decade of relentless negative coverage aimed at Trump, it all failed to resonate. Americans chose to reelect Trump by a wide margin.

Yet, some journalists reacted with anger and condemnation. Their furious outbursts and belittling remarks are unprecedented, even compared to 2016.

For years, progressives propagated false narratives—from the Russia collusion conspiracy to downplaying Hunter Biden’s controversies and censoring COVID-19 information—all of which turned out to be inaccurate. While they were labeled dangerously misinformed, conservatives were vindicated in their views.

Conservatives grew weary of being deceived and accused of ignorance and immorality. Unfortunately, the left remained deaf to these concerns.

Instead, they approached the situation with a sense of elitism, arrogance, and superiority. On November 5, Americans made their choice and pushed back against years of progressive self-righteousness.

What’s fueling the anger among progressives?

The left’s reaction to the democratic process has been incredibly frustrating. I’ve often felt the urge to reprimand, ignore, or mock my left-leaning friends.

I didn’t even get a chance to celebrate before hearing leftists claim that I, along with the 75.6 million Americans who voted for Trump, was ignorant or foolish. The sitting president labeled us “garbage” even before Election Day.

The disdain, self-righteousness, and complete lack of self-awareness from the left have become tiresome very quickly.

If Democrats persist in disparaging a large portion of the electorate as foolish and racist without any moment for introspection, they will feel the repercussions, not conservatives.

The Make America Great Again movement will continue to progress. Good luck to them.
