This US airport has been named the busiest in the world again: Check out the top 10
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been recognized as the world’s busiest airport for the second consecutive year.
According to OAG’s yearly assessment of major airports, ATL ranks first again after accommodating 62.7 million seats in 2024. OAG specifies that its rankings are based on the capacity of airlines scheduled at the airports, not the actual passenger count.
Last year, four out of the top ten busiest airports globally were located in the U.S., with Dallas/Fort Worth at fifth place, Denver in sixth, and Chicago-O’Hare at tenth.
- Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International (ATL)
- Dubai International (DXB)
- Tokyo International – Haneda (HND)
- London Heathrow (LHR)
- Dallas Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW)
- Denver International (DEN)
- Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)
- Istanbul (IST)
- Shanghai Pudong International (PVG)
- Chicago O’Hare International (ORD)
“Atlanta’s ongoing dominance on a global scale highlights its role as a key connecting hub for both domestic and international travel, backed by a robust set of primary airlines,” remarked OAG’s Chief Analyst, John Grant, in a statement. “Recent advances in Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver illustrate the competitive landscape within the United States, providing more options for travelers making connections.”
OAG reports that Atlanta’s capacity increased by 2% in 2024 compared to the previous year, with all ten of the busiest airports experiencing growth last year.
Shanghai Pudong exhibited the most significant growth among the top 10, rising from the 15th position in 2023 to 9th in 2024, thanks to a 29% surge in capacity.
Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, and Chicago all reported capacity increases between 5-9%.
