Highlights and lowlights from Thursday Night Football: Rams edge out 49ers in a game without touchdowns

The Los Angeles Rams continued their impressive form in the Bay Area.

Puka Nacua and the Rams secured a victory against the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 12-6 in a defensive showdown that had significant playoff implications.

The Rams (8-6) have triumphed in their last three games against the 49ers (6-8) and completed a clean sweep of the season series.

Currently on a three-game winning streak, Los Angeles is only half a game behind the division-leading Seattle Seahawks (8-5), who are set to face the Green Bay Packers on “Sunday Night Football.”

This defeat places the 49ers at the bottom of their division, putting their playoff ambitions in serious doubt.

YSL News Sports outlines the winners and losers from this fierce NFC West matchup:

Winners

Kickers

The points in this match came solely from the kickers, Rams’ Joshua Karty and 49ers’ Jake Moody.

Karty successfully made all four of his field goal attempts, while Moody converted both of his.

Entering Week 15, Karty had only converted 77% of his field goals this season.

Punters

Rams punter Ethan Evans and 49ers punter Pat O’Donnell were quite active, combining for 13 punts. Evans recorded six punts for a total of 325 yards, while O’Donnell had seven for 316 yards.

Puka Nacua

After an outstanding performance last week with 12 catches, 162 yards, and a touchdown, Nacua contributed seven catches for 97 yards in this game.

One of his standout plays came in the first quarter, where he made an impressive catch by pinning the ball against Charvarius Ward’s helmet while falling.

His 51-yard reception in the fourth quarter marked the longest gain of the night.

Nacua was the only Rams receiver to catch more than one pass, while Cooper Kupp did not register a single catch.

Kyren Williams

Williams, alongside Nacua, was pivotal to the Rams’ offensive efforts on Thursday night. The running back carried the ball 29 times for 108 yards, achieving his third 100-yard rushing game of the season.

Dre Greenlaw

Greenlaw made his much-anticipated return to the lineup after being activated from injured reserve, marking his first game since suffering a torn Achilles in Super Bowl 58.

The inside linebacker started in this long-awaited comeback, although he was not able to play the full game.

Despite this, he managed to secure eight tackles during the matchup.

The 49ers’ social media team deserves credit for creatively announcing Greenlaw’s return, as they cleverly noted they had not forgotten about him.

Fred Warner

Warner continues to prove himself as one of the top inside linebackers in the NFL.

Leading the 49ers in tackles, he amassed a game-high 15 tackles and was a constant presence on the field, despite the loss.

Losers

Deebo Samuel and the 49ers Wide Receivers

Samuel expressed his frustration regarding his lack of targets this season. Although the 49ers attempted to involve him early in the game, his performance was underwhelming.

In the third quarter, he dropped a pass on a slant route when he had clear running room ahead, which cost the team a potential touchdown. Subsequently, the 49ers could only secure a field goal on that drive.

Overall, the 49ers’ wide receivers combined for just six receptions.

San Francisco’s Offense

This year’s injuries have severely impacted the 49ers’ offense. They are missing key players including left tackle Trent Williams, running back Christian McCaffrey, and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, all of whom are on injured reserve.

The 49ers could only muster 191 total yards of offense.

Rams’ Offense in the First Half

While Nacua had a dazzling catch early in the first quarter, the first half was filled with struggles for the Rams’ offense.

Nacua made three of the Rams’ four receptions during that half, and the team entered halftime with just 23 passing yards.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford completed just 4 of 12 passes in the first two quarters.
