Tia Mowry Discusses Her ‘Healing Journey,’ Time with Her Kids, and Life on TV Without Tamera
Tia Mowry is embarking on a solo journey.
This sense of independence is the theme of her new We TV reality show “Tia Mowry: My Next Act.” The actress, best known for her role on the 1990s sitcom “Sister, Sister” alongside her twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley, is now stepping into a fresh chapter following her separation from Cory Hardrict. It’s her time to shine on her own.
“Honestly, I didn’t foresee (the show) happening until I faced this significant shift and transition in my life,” Mowry tells YSL News. “I felt that if I didn’t take action, I wouldn’t be true to myself.”
The show features Mowry, now 46, over the course of eight episodes, diving into the complexities of dating, co-parenting, and displaying a level of openness and vulnerability that is seldom seen on reality TV. This marks her first time sharing her journey publicly since “Tia & Tamera,” which aired on the Style Network in the early 2010s.
Additionally, Mowry is preparing to executive produce and star in the Lifetime Christmas film “A Very Merry Beauty Salon,” featuring her former co-star RonReaco Lee from “Sister, Sister.”
In her own words, Mowry discusses her views on dating, favorite activities with her children, and embracing the pleasures of singlehood.
Tia Mowry Embraces Single Life During Her ‘Healing Journey’
Mowry describes this phase of her life as a “healing journey.” She’s finding strength in solitude, saying, “I am great company,” while also admitting to her human need for affection.
“Sometimes I feel lonely in terms of physical intimacy, longing to be held and to hold someone,” she shares. “But I remind myself to reflect inward when those feelings arise.”
“I don’t feel as lonely as before, primarily because I’ve developed a relationship with myself,” she explains. “In the past, I think I was behaving out of trauma, seeking validation and letting others fill the gaps in my life.”
However, she finds solace in her “wonderful kids” and her expansive support network. “I have an amazing circle of family and friends that I turn to whenever I feel down,” she remarks. “And during those times, I embrace solitude and work through my emotions.”
Tia Mowry’s Dating Tips Emphasize Maintaining a Positive Attitude
As she navigates life post-divorce, Mowry has adopted a more “positive and optimistic” attitude toward dating.
“I genuinely believe that the energy you emit will return to you,” she states. “So my outlook has changed; whatever is meant to happen will happen. I trust that I won’t miss out on my person, just as they won’t miss out on me.”
Mowry is also viewing dating as a “learning experience” and concentrating on aspects she can control.
“When I go out on a date, I try not to ask, ‘Is he the one? What’s going to happen next?'”
“Will he be my boyfriend?” I used to ponder, but now I’ve shifted my focus. It’s about discovering, ‘What can I learn about myself?'”
One important tip she shares is that maintaining a relaxed environment is comforting for her.
“This approach keeps things fun and light. I consider myself the CEO of my own life, and I’m not in a phase where I’m waiting for someone to choose me. I’m taking charge, and it feels much better than stressing over what someone thinks about me—that’s just tiring.”
Tia Mowry incorporates her children into her morning routine
For Mowry, there’s nothing quite as fulfilling as starting her day with her kids.
“Every morning, my daughter Cairo is the first to come in for a cuddle. We snuggle in bed together,” she shares, adding that soon after, her 13-year-old son Cree joins them. “Having my kids close in the morning is incredibly rewarding; being a mother and showing them love is so satisfying.”
Halloween festivities are a big deal for Tia Mowry’s family
The “Twitches” star celebrated Halloween with her children at Disneyland, where they dressed up as characters from “Monster’s Inc.” “Halloween is a significant occasion for us,” she explains.
Cairo, 6, surprised everyone by dressing as Mike Wazowski, while Mowry took on the role of Boo, and Cree, still eager to participate despite being a teenager, decided to be Sully. “It’s wonderful that he still enjoys the themed costumes,” Mowry mentions.
The actress bonds with her son over their mutual love for travel. They have plans for a trip to Dubai later this year.
“He’s fascinated by aviation and aircraft,” she explains, noting that he enjoys practicing flights using a simulator. Experiencing real flights has him “thrilled.”
“Ultimately, it’s about creating quality time together with my kids.”
