Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Ready to Debut at Disneyland

Disneyland is gearing up for an exciting new addition!

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to launch this Friday, generating a wave of excitement at the Southern California resort. It’s been several months since the similar attraction opened at Walt Disney World in June, and more than a year since the original Splash Mountain closed its doors in May 2023.

This joyful flume ride takes place after the storyline of “The Princess and the Frog” and guarantees a great time for everyone. Moreover, during the opening phase, visitors can enjoy a complimentary Disney PhotoPass download of their experience on the attraction.

Here’s everything you need to know about Disneyland’s latest ride.

What Is the Tale Behind Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

While waiting in line for the ride, guests will discover that Princess Tiana, inspired by the renowned chef Leah Chase, has been actively supporting her community through a new employee-owned cooperative called Tiana’s Foods. She is excitedly preparing for a large Mardi Gras celebration but is missing an essential ingredient. Visitors will join her and Louis the Alligator in their quest through the bayou to find a band. True to its roots, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure celebrates New Orleans with enchanting music and heartfelt moments.

Where Can You Find Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is situated in Bayou Country, previously known as Critter Country, which now features the updated Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree.

This attraction is just a short stroll from Tiana’s Palace and Eudora’s Chic Boutique, both located in the neighboring New Orleans Square.

Is There a Scary Drop on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

The major drop of 50 feet is not meant to be frightening; however, there’s a smaller drop into a dark area that might be a bit intimidating for younger guests. The ride has a height requirement of 40 inches.

Will There Be a Virtual Queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Yes, to experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure during the opening phase, guests must use the complimentary virtual queue or purchase Lightning Lane access. A traditional standby line will not be available at this time.

Will You Get Wet on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Yes, there’s a good chance of getting wet, so it’s advisable to bring a poncho. Visitors can also purchase ponchos and towels at the nearby Louis’ Critter Club, which offers various souvenirs.

Is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Better Than Splash Mountain?

This can vary depending on personal preference, but Tiana’s Bayou Adventure definitely offers a more cheerful and upbeat vibe compared to Splash Mountain. There’s no danger from characters like Br’er Fox or Br’er Bear, and the attraction features state-of-the-art animatronics and screens that provide a modern touch. Plus, riders are welcomed with the delightful scent of beignets!

Why was Splash Mountain shut down?

Splash Mountain was associated with “Song of the South,” a 1946 film that has faced criticism for its romanticized depiction of plantation life.

Although Disney has not explicitly linked the ride’s closure to the film, CEO Bob Iger mentioned during a March 2020 shareholders meeting that, despite the presence of a disclaimer, “Song of the South” was not suitable for today’s audience.

A petition to change Splash Mountain gained significant attention in 2020. Shortly thereafter, Disney revealed plans to update the ride, although these revisions had actually been in consideration since 2019.

How many locations of Splash Mountain exist?

Currently, there is only a single Splash Mountain remaining, located at Tokyo Disney Resort, which is operated by the Oriental Land Company rather than Disney.

Visitors to Tokyo Disneyland should be aware that the ride will be closed for maintenance from February 12 to March 19, 2025.
